      <image:title>Research - Giant Horsetail, Southern Utah</image:title>
      <image:caption>A giant horsetail fossil in southern Utah, still in the position it was growing in. Horsetails are relatively primitive plants that today grow no more than a few centimeters in diameter.  Massive forms like this one flourished during the Paleozoic Era and the Triassic Period. The stems are hollow, and fill up with sediment when the horsetail dies and is buried, creating a natural mold of the inside of the stem.  </image:caption>
